Puhos Loves People 2019 is a cultural festival for the whole family. The event takes place on Saturday 17th of August 2019 at the Puhos Mall, located in Itäkeskus area of Helsinki, Finland. The Puhos is one of the liveliest multicultural hubs of the Helsinki city, hosting several multilingual communities, entrepreneurs and a mosque. The mall is a self-imposed meeting point which gathers people from diverse backgrounds. Puhos Loves People brings together music, food and other culture programme designed together by the communities from Puhos and other parts of Eastern Helsinki. The event is free of charge and alcohol free.

SAMA & ZARAY DANCERS

Sama is a band consisting from musicians from Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. Together with Zaray Dancers group they´ll perform rich set of arabian music, belly dance and other dance programme based on Middle Eastern and persian traditions.

YEBOYAH

Yeboyah is one of the most promising upcoming rappers in Finland, most known for her 2017 single release ”Broflake”. Yeboyah is also part of the rap collective D.R.E.A.M.G.I.R.L.S which has sparked a lot of notoriety all through the land of a thousand lakes. This promising collective has had memorable performances at a full Flow Festival Red Arena, a sold out show at Tavastia and all the way to Ruisrock. She also features with artists such as Gasellit, Dilemma and Pesso.

Moscow based artist Steppa Style is one of the first Reggae, Dancehall & Jungle artist in Russia who started making tunes in English and Patois. His style varies from Jungle to Dubstep but Reggae music is priority. Among others he has published music with Johnny Osbourne, General Levy, Soom T, J-Star and Dreadsquad. With fire in his heart and energy on the stage Steppa is bringing a good vibe to each and everyone. His gig at the Puhos Loves People festival is the artist´s first performance in Eastern Helsinki!

MUSTA BARBAARI, PRINSSI JUSUF, SEKSIKÄS SUKLAA JA DOSDELA

Musta barbaari (Black Barbarian), Prinssi Jusuf (Prince Yusuf), Seksikäs suklaa (Sexy Chocolade) & Dosdela are rappers who spend their child- and younghood in Eastern Helsinki. Musta Barbaari is an ex body builder and social media celebrity who got into spotlight with his song Salil eka salil vika. Prinssi Jusuf is known from his song Prinssille morsian. Boath artists have active fan groups in Instagram. Seksikäs Suklaa and Dosdela are widely known social media celebrities who released their first single Niku97 couple of years ago.

Safwaan Hilaac (NO), Halimo Gobad and Ayanna (NO)

Safwaan Hilaac (NO) is an artist who grew up in Hargeisha who lives in Norway. He started his musical career on Somaliland and in his loves songs the artist combines pop, rhytmn blues, soul and blue jazz.

Halimo Gobad is an artist who moves to Finland from Sweden. She started her musical career in Nairob where she quickly became popular. In her music, which is often about love, she combines blue jazz, rhytmn blues and dance music.

Ayanna´s music whiich mixes soul, jazz and rhytm & blues is listened in East-African communities around the world. Artsit who has grown in Bergen, Norway has taken over the Somalian music scene with her music videos with millions of views.

Non-commercial cultural organisation Tusovka brings again together the most interesting and fresh dj´s and artists for the summer´s end hottest party in the chicest night club of the Eastern Helsinki.

DJs SLOPPY DUNK (Rootless Reggae, Afrobeat, World music) is Mister X. Or actually XXX. You can see this mystical anti-hero only in the shades of night. Some say that his nice behaviour is just bluffing because this old fox cannot take many things, like lactose and shit music among others.

DJ ERYKAH SHALII merges together Juke, Jersey Club and base music to futuristic maxim.

YARAY is a DJ and musician, who discovers new trends in electronic music. In his mixes he likes to share good tunes and unique tracks of unknown artists and musicians.

FJORDWALKER (dj set)

LIVE MUSIC UKULI is a Helsinki based musician who makes grime influenced melodic Finnish rap. Her debut EP is in the final stage of production and her first music video came out in the spring. Ukuli raps with intensive energy and ponders the obscure areas of mind and the world.

Disco for Children and Youth is an outside event targeted for 0-17 year old youths. The music in the disco is played by the dj´s of the Funky Amigos organisation. As part of the disco programme there will guided and juried dance battle. The battle is open for everyone to participate and hosted by dj Happyfeet

FATIMA NADAF (Syria/Kotka, Finland) is a writer and poet. She has published several short stories. In Damascus she has been editor-in-chief of a cultural journal.

DORRA AZZOUZ (Tunisia/Helsinki, Finland) is a multidisciplinary artist working with poetry, visual art and design. She publishes her poems in Internet, but we are still to wait for a printed book to come out.

SHASHANK MANE (India/Helsinki) has previously appeared for short fiction in Every Writer Magazine, Indiana Voice Journal, Vignette Review, Diverse Voices Quarterly, The Creative Truth, and Gravel Lit. His debut collection of short stories and poetry titled "Moments" is available through Amazon. He has lived in Finland since 2013. Master of Science (M.Sc.) focused in Biology of Physical Activity from University of Jyväskylä.

The event is organised by Sivuvalo and Kiila.

SIVUVALO PLATFORM is an organisation advancing multilingual literature and lingual equality in Finland.

KIILA is the oldest functioning nonaligned leftist writers’ and artists’ association in Finland with the aim to connect the left with feminism and with movements against capitalism, fascism and racism, toward equality.

Puhos Fashion Show showcases dresses from fashion stores and designers from Puhos and other Helsinki based non-Finnish language groups. Participating shops and designers include Halimo Fashion, Queens shop, Jebena House, Often Shop and more. The fashion show is hosted by dj Subeer (SO/SE).

The fashion show is looking for people interested in fashion modelling. No previous experience in fashion modelling needed. We will contact you shortly after receiving your registration!

In the mural workshop participants can design and paint a collective mural to a wall next to Puhos Mall by stencils. The workshop is kindly supported by Otto A. Malms donationsfond.

In the Serigraphy workshop you can print a t-shirt for yourself with a silk-screen. The shirts used for printing have been received as donation and the amount is limited. You can also bring your own clothes or bags for printing.

K-POP DANCE WORKSHOP

K-pop dance group Moonwalkerz Crew teaches choreographies of choruses of two well known k-pop hits Exid - DDD and Pentagon - Shine. The first one of the choreographies belongs to a girl group and focuses on feminine expression of movements. The second is a choreography from boy group and includes influences from street arts. Both of the choreographies are suitable for everyone to dance despite of gender or age.

The first from the dance classes starts at 2pm and the second at 3pm. Choose the one you prefer or come to both! No previous dance experience is needed, equip with comfortable clothes and good mood!

Enrolling to Exid - DDD dance workshop at1:00 - 1:45 pm and Pentagon - Shine dance workshop at 2:00 - 2:45 pm at the festival info point next to the main stage, front of the Alanya Oriental Market. You can also enrol to workshops online:

Women's room is a space for women which offers support, friendship and tender loving care. The workshops offers different kind of treatments as well as coffee and tea. You can also visit the room just to have a break or share your thoughts.

As part of the Puhos ♡ People -festiva. FEMMA Helsinki Collective organises Places of Puhos Point. In the point you can share your experiences on Puhos and take part to a photography workshop held by a photographer Katja Tähjä and get the places you have photographed exhibited in a photography show held in Instagram. The aim of the Places of Puhos is to ponder what kind of hopes people have for the future of Puhos while the future is uncertain. The materials produced in the workshop are used in the instagram exhibition as well as in the future project of the Femma Collective, which contemplates inhabitants experiences on city space.

Eritrean restaurant serves festival quests spicy meat stew called Zign alongside with Injera, a sourdough-risen flatbread with a slightly spongy texture. The restaurant´s servings include also Quiwa, sauteed meat, onions and berbere served with a sauce. While dining you can also taste Suwa, a home-brewed beer made from roasted corn and barley flavored with gesho, a type of buckthorn leaf.

African Care ry is a non-governmental organisation founded by African women. Africa Care´s maternity clinic and training project in Somalia have made possible over 1000 safe deliveries a year. In Finland Africa Care organises global education courses and group activities supporting well-being of immigrants. In addition African Care organises education on sexual and reproductive health.

MONIHELI KATTO-PROGRAM

Moniheli's Katto (=roof) program aims to combat immigrant homelessness through pre-emptive work. While homelessness overall is decreasing in Finland, migrant has been homelessness is on the rise until 2017 when it levelled off. According to ARA statistics 26% (27% in 2015) of all homeless persons had a migration background and 64% (54% in 2015) of homeless families were migrant families. Katto program produces, gathers and disseminates information on housing-related issues to migrants and professionals through different channels, provides targeted trainings on housing issues among migrants and ethnic minorities for housing professionals, advises migrants who have faced difficulties with housing, promotes active cooperation between different stakeholders and raises awareness of the grievances at grassroots level.

Vamos helps youths who are for example worried about getting along with daily life, mental health, accommodation, finance, school or entering to work life. Each of the youth participating to the Vamos project gets personal employee who has time to get to know his/her situation and respond to his/her needs. The support is offered to both for daily life and for planning the future. Little by little the project find the youth a path to education or work.

Vamos operates in eight cities : Helsinki, Espoo, Lahti, Turku, Kuopio, Oulu, Rovaniemi and Vantaa.

The Finnish Somalia Network is an expert organization focusing on peace and development in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.

The Network, founded in 2004, currently implements three different development projects in different sectors and regions in cooperation with our member organizations. The network has 30 member organisations.

In Finland we are also working on finding means to enhance youth participation and active citizenship focusing especially on youth with migrant background. Let’s Read Together is a national network that support immigrants’, especially women’s, Finnish language skills and integration. The network offers Finnish, Swedish and literacy teaching to immigrants all around Finland.
